Laser pointers found on the local market

The Technical Regulations Division (TRD) within the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) reminds importers and retailers that laser pointer products being sold as toys and similar articles are banned from the market as they pose a serious risk to consumers and may cause partial or even permanent blindness. Hence their importation and placing on the market is being prohibited.

Retailers having these products for sale are required to remove them with immediate effect and return them to their supplier.

Importers are to make arrangements for these laser pointers to be withdrawn from the market with immediate effect. Any retailer and/or importer who is found to be placing these laser pointers on the market will be liable to legal action to enforce the ban.

Consumers are advised not to use these laser pointers and to return them to the place of purchase.

For any queries or further information, one can contact the MCCAA on 2395 2000 or on info@mccaa.org.mt
