RoHS in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Amendment No. 2)

Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Amendment No. 2) Regulations, 2022-  USER GUIDLEINES 

 

The proposed regulations amend the Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations (S.L. 427.57) in order to transpose:

Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/274 on the exemption for the use of mercury in cold cathode fluorescent lamps and external electrode fluorescent lamps for special purposes;

Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/275 on the exemption for the use of mercury in other High-Pressure Sodium (vapour) lamps for general lighting purposes;

Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/276 on the exemption for the use of mercury in single capped (compact) fluorescent lamps for general lighting purposes;

Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/277 on the exemption for the use of mercury in single capped (compact) fluorescent lamps for general lighting purposes < 30 W with a lifetime equal to or above 20000 h;

Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/278 on the exemption for the use of mercury in metal halide lamps;

Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/279 on the exemption for the use of mercury in other discharge lamps for special purposes;

Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/280 on the exemption for the use of mercury in other low pressure discharge lamps;

Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/281 on the exemption for the use of mercury in single capped (compact) fluorescent lamps for special purposes;

Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/282 on the exemption for the use of mercury in non-linear tri-band phosphor lamps;

Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/283 on the exemption for the use of mercury in High Pressure Sodium (vapour) lamps with improved colour rendering index for general lighting purposes;

Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/284 on the exemption for the use of mercury in double-capped linear fluorescent lamps for general lighting purposes; and

Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2022/287 on the exemption for mercury in fluorescent lamps for other general lighting and special purposes.

The aforementioned twelve Commission Delegated Directives relate to previously granted exemptions for the use of mercury in different types and categories of lamps and applications. By means of these Directives, the Commission:

  1. renewed a number of exemptions for further periods up to a maximum of 5 years;
  2. renewed a number of exemptions for further periods up to a maximum of 5 years, albeit with a restricted scope; and
  3. revoked other exemptions thereby bringing into force the prohibition of use of mercury in specific applications.

 

These user-guidelines are being published in accordance with article 3 of the Small Business Act (Cap. 512)
